| If you
have visited my website before, you will probably already know that I started
Ikebana by Junko as a result of participating in the 2002 Will Adams Japanese
Festival. Well, I am delighted to say I was invited back again for 2006,
the 3rd time I have had the opportunity to join in the fun of what is always a
fantastic event. |
 |
|
The festival, on September 16th in Gillingham, Kent, was organised and sponsored
by Medway Council, with the Japanese artists arranged by Japan Promotions. |

Workshop with Mayor Angela Prodger |
|
I gave
four demonstrations, followed by free practical workshops and as always, the
workshops were all full...sorry to those who could not get in. And even
Medway's Lady Mayor joined in! |

I love doing
workshops!
By the way, the rich
orange sash at my back is called an obi and laid out is over 2m long. |
People's interest, concentration and pleasure at trying Ikebana
for the first time is just a great joy. |
|
One of the greatest pleasures for me was that several of my ikebana students
came to the event. Three of my most senior students helped me throughout the day
giving those attending the workshops the benefit of their Ikebana knowledge and
study. Considering the inspiration for Ikebana by Junko came from this event
four years ago, it seemed rather fitting. You will no doubt recognise the
them below from class photos. |

As always, the festival there were many
other fabulous attractions, including dancing and taiko drummers, workshops
for traditional Japanese arts and crafts, such as soroban (abacus), kimono and
calligraphy.

I must say that every year
the weather seems to very kind to us, although this year, it was perhaps
overly kind. I am sure it was about 40 degrees in the marquee!
Very hot when you are wearing kimono. |
