Originally from Tokyo, I am happily
married to an Englishman (called Keith) and have been living in
UK for the last 18 years. |
 |
|
I was brought up in a rather
traditional Japanese environment and always enjoyed many Japanese traditions.
When I lived in Japan, in addition to Ikebana,
I studied and practised several cultural arts such as Tea Ceremony,
Koto (Japanese musical instrument) and Kimono. |

I began studying
Ikebana at 15 years old,
then moved from Sogetsu School to Ikenobo School of Ikebana.
I first qualified as an Ikenobo instructor in 1982. I started "Ikebana by Junko"
in 2002 to teach Ikebana in U.K. Since then I have taught students from
all over the world including enthusiastic and dedicated students from as far
away as New Zealand, Sri Lanka, North America, Middle East and of course,
Europe.
I am now a Professor of Ikenobo School and
still regularly attend seminars at Ikenobo headquarters in Japan.

I also enjoy the
English Style of flower arranging and gardens, and studied Floristry at
Southwark College in 1991-2. During this time I experienced working as florist
at Claridges Hotel in Mayfair. |

Professor Akino

and Mrs.Hansa Patel from Surrey Study Group. |
Since leaving Japan, I have attended and
participated in many Ikebana exhibitions, events and demonstrations in the UK.
These included "Japan festival 2001" at
Hyde Park. I arranged Ikebana at the Natural History Museum and the National
Gallery, along with several hotels and restaurants in London.
I am also pleased to have assisted at the
demonstrations and workshops of a number of visiting professors from Ikenobo
headquarters. These include Professor F Nakamura in 2002 and
Professor Akino in Surrey in 2006. I am
especially proud to have assisted the current Headmaster, Sen'ei Ikenobo, when
he visited London in both 1996 and 2001 which were organized by the
Ikenobo Society London Chapter. |

 |
In August 2002, I had
the opportunity to give Ikebana
demonstrations and workshops for "Will Adams
Festival" in Gillingham, Kent.
At this event, I met so many people who are interested in Ikebana that I was inspired
to set up ‘ Ikebana
by
Junko’.
 |
|
More recently I have been invited to demonstrate
Ikebana at The Royal Commonwealth Society, The
National Railway Museum's Japan week
and for several NAFAS flower arrangement groups. |

It is most
satisfying when I create an arrangement by using the plants and flowers from my
own garden, especially those I grow from seeds!

|
|
|
I am also a qualified, professional
Japanese language teacher. I enjoy teaching both Ikebana
and Japanese. My hobbies include Koto, flute, gardening, golf and love good
food and fine wine.

It is a real pleasure for me
to introduce people to Ikebana. I hope through Ikebana by
Junko, I can help many people enjoy a new dimension to their flower arranging.
